Twitter released an update on Wednesday, December 16th that will let you broadcast live video straight from the Twitter app for iOS and Android devices. The “Go Live” feature is powered by Apple’s 2015 App of the Year winner, Periscope.
This new feature is another step that Twitter’s taking to reinforce their commitment to become the top live platform. Earlier this year Twitter also announced a deal with the NHL and other sports organizations.
This is one of the biggest app releases by Twitter in 2016. We looking forward to seeing how marketers will leverage this new feature to broadcast events, new releases and more for their brands.
How It Works
To go live, compose a Tweet, then tap the “Live” button which brings you to the pre-broadcast screen where you can frame your shot. When you are ready to broadcast your video, simply press “Go Live” to start broadcasting. During the broadcast, users who see your video on their timelines can tap in, comment, and send hearts. The broadcast can also be liked, retweeted, and shared anywhere.
